Report: “Pomerania on light gas”
Report: “Pomerania on light gas”
The final report of the “Pomerania on Light Gas” project sheds light on key aspects of the development of the hydrogen economy in the Pomeranian Voivodeship until 2040. It is not only a diagnosis of the current situation, but also a vision of the future with a booming hydrogen economy in Pomerania.
Pomerania has numerous assets to successfully develop the hydrogen economy, such as favourable environmental conditions or already existing hydrogen projects. However, in order to build a hydrogen economy to increase the region’s energy security, serve its decarbonisation and thus also increase prosperity in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, it is necessary to:
- increase the awareness of entrepreneurs in the region,
- increase the level of innovation, and
- create an enabling environment for the development of the hydrogen economy.
When building an effective strategy for the development of the hydrogen economy in Pomerania, the following uncertainties must also be taken into account:
- the price of green hydrogen;
- the model of the hydrogen economy – centralised or distributed;
- hydrogen use and competition from alternatives;
- hydrogen transmission, distribution and transport;
- hydrogen technologies – efficiency and cost-effectiveness;
- the pace of the energy transition;
- climate policy;
- public support for decarbonisation and hydrogen;
- interest – and opportunities for investment – of foreign capital in Polish hydrogen;
- competencies needed to build a hydrogen economy.
The report presents scenarios for the development of the hydrogen economy in Pomerania. We see various possibilities for the future – from fighting for attention to building hydrogen valleys and communities. The key to success, however, is proper support for local entrepreneurship and the consideration of social factors in planning the development of the hydrogen initiatives in Pomerania.
This report provides a roadmap for Pomerania on the way to a green future. It is a challenge, but also a great opportunity to create a region that not only cares about the environment, but also provides prosperity and development for its inhabitants.
