Geopolitics significantly influences this field of research. Leading powers do not shy away from experiments, and the motives behind them are not always noble. Leaving synthetic biology in the hands of profit-driven or power-hungry institutions, organisations, or companies is highly risky. If we aim for sustainable development in this field, we must establish strong regulations and standards, ensure social acceptance, all while being aware of the risks that this synthetic world brings.
