Foresight workshop at the GEEK4Food gathering at the TU Dublin

GEEK4Food, the pioneering Erasmus+ endeavour, advances into its next chapter at an assembly hosted by TU Dublin. This collaborative rendezvous seamlessly united our team with the bright minds of Nemos Project and Global Action Platform Convene, forging connections and synergies.

The zenith of this confluence materialised in a workshop helmed by Bartosz Frąckowiak of 4CF The Futures Literacy Company, aptly named ‘The Futures of the Food System Transition by 2040” .

We navigated the intricate tapestry of food systems, health, and planet, employing the avant-garde tenets of futures literacy and foresight. Our exploration spanned the realms of burgeoning agri-food skills and biotech, with a deep dive into the realms of regenerative agriculture. This workshop, a compass in our collective journey, sought to pinpoint agrifood opportunities and challenges, dissect educational and policy strategies, and illuminate the pivotal green and digital skills needed for a sustainable agrifood ecosystem.

We developed scenarios from clusters of projections (based on uncertainties about the future), embedding personas in the imagined futures worlds (creating their empathy maps), asking what opportunities and risks are related to them, what recommendations could be important, and what new green and digital skills could be key in each snapshot of the future.

Participants created 4 alternative future(s) scenarios: (1) Dichotomy of food security, (2) Healthy people, (3) Feeding AI-Natives, (4) Collapse of food systems. Each described a different future in the context of food security & safety, sustainable food systems, food waste, (bio)technology and other important themes related to the transformation of the planetary food system.
