The media hype surrounding 3D print, caused by the first home-use devices, has already subsided slightly. Its impact was partially positive: the boosted interest created financing opportunities and propelled the development of additive manufacturing technologies. On the other hand, however, naive tabloid visions of the future spread misconceptions about the possibilities and limitations of the technologies (“We will soon be eating printed food!”).
Cubic Inch, a company specialising in 3D printing solutions, asked 4CF to conduct a foresight analysis of 3D printing prospects in several vital industries – automotive, aeronautics, automation, robotics, shipbuilding, and maintenance.
