Open Letter to UN President

Open Letter to UN President

4CF has joined a distinguished group of experts from the global foresight and strategy community in signing an open letter to His Excellency Mr. Philémon Yang, President of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, addressing the urgent need for AI governance.

As a forward-thinking collective of scientists, intellectuals, business leaders, diplomats, and policymakers, we are deeply concerned about the safety and governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This letter calls for decisive action, advocating for a multilateral and multi-stakeholder system that ensures AI development aligns with human rights and promotes global well-being. Specifically, it urges the establishment of a UN resolution to create a global AI Convention and a specialised AI Governance Agency to guide the safe and ethical evolution of AI.

At a time when the conversation around AI safety and governance is intensifying, the letter reflects our shared commitment to take collective responsibility in shaping the future of AI, including the transformative potential of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

Key highlights:

  • Recognition of recent major global events, including the UN Security Council session, US Senate hearings, and AI safety summits in London, Seoul, and Seattle.
  • Support for the UN General Assembly’s resolution on ensuring safe and trustworthy AI for sustainable development.
  • A call for urgent action to address the risks of General and Super AI.

This initiative, led by The Millennium Project in collaboration with the World Futures Studies Federation and the World Academy of Art and Science, is a crucial step toward advancing a safe and ethical AI future for all. Download the letter below!
