Farmers’ protests: How much can we afford?
“We see a fierce struggle in which both national, EU, Ukrainian and global stakeholders are holding nothing back”, said Kacper Nosarzewski, partner at 4CF The Futures Literacy Company and board member of the Polish Society for Futures Studies.
Farmers in Poland have three main demands: they do not want the implementation of the Green Deal in its current form, they want a ban on the import of agri-food products from Ukraine and they demand support for animal husbandry.
The Polish farmers’ protests are a fragment of a larger whole – a wave of protests by farmers across Europe. The scale of the protests is mainly due to the entry into force of the European Green Deal. Farmers are also unhappy about the drastic fall in the profitability of production, accompanied by a drop in the price of agricultural produce.
