The Millennium Project is a global think tank founded in 1996 under the American Council of the United Nations University, which became independent in 2009 and has grown to 73 nodes around the world.

The goal of the think tank is to improve humanity’s prospects for building a better future, and the mission is to improve and promote futures thinking to make better decisions today.

Some of the achievements of The Millennium Project are:

• Creating a system for collective futures thinking – 73 hubs (groups of people and institutions) connecting global and local perspectives
• Creating a framework for tracking and interpreting global change
• Educational contribution – training of interns from more than 30 countries, opportunities for 1000 universities to use think tank materials and Millennium Awards
• Inclusive and participatory system for measuring global progress/regression – State of the Future Index (SOFI) – global and national indices
• Largest collection of futures research methods – 37 methods, 39 chapters, 1300 pages, peer-reviewed worldwide (Futures Research Methodology 3.0)
• Global system of collective knowledge about the future
