Foresights and Unknowns of the District Heating Transformation until 2050
An important element of the XXVII edition of the Polish Heat Engineering Forum in Międzyzdroje – the largest industry conference in the country, organised by the Izbę Gospodarczą Ciepłownictwo Polskie – was the foresight workshop.
What are we sure of? What do we not know, but would like to know about the energy transformation of the sector? More than 50 industry experts, academics and media representatives attended the workshop “Known and unknown – what are the risks in the decarbonisation of the heating sector 2030-2050”, organised by Grupa Veolia and led by 4CF The Futures Literacy Company, a consultancy specialising in long-term foresight. During the discussions, 24 theses were discussed, for which a probability scale was then determined.
These included issues related to, among others, decarbonisation and electrification of the district heating sector, continuation of support programmes for thermo-modernisation of buildings and development of renewable energy sources (RES), the pace of development of the biomethane and hydrogen market in the country, energy efficiency, implementation of heat pumps, as well as MMR / SMR in the sector and the competitiveness and liquidity of district heating companies operating in Poland.
