Thales has provided Mastercard and Visa with biometric contactless cards. Is it not too late for biometric cards? Why do we need plastic? Mobile payment users of Apple Pay, Google Pay, Garmin Pay, Fitbit Pay and Swatch Pay are unlikely to switch back to traditional cards, even biometric ones, Cashless.pl wrote. In 2017, 4CF Strategic Foresight did not recommend the development of biometric payment cards. Until this solution becomes cost-effective, the attractiveness of having a physical card will decline, we wrote at the time in a report “The Future of the Mobile Payments Industry” developed for First Data (now Fiserv), in which we compared a range of payment solutions using the 4CF Matrix.
