France preparing for a war of the future
Science fiction authors, screenwriters and cartoonists are designing future conflict scenarios — some plausible, others more difficult to imagine from a modern perspective. The goal is to help the French Ministry of Armed Forces prepare for wars in a 2030-2060 perspective.
The official name of the group is the Red Team. It consists of 10 science fiction authors who have been predicting potential mid-21st century threats to France for the past two years. “We are facing an uncertain future… we have to think out-of-the-box, believe in the impossible, imagine the unimaginable and question what seemed unquestionable yesterday,” said Minister of Armed Forces Florence Parly at the end of 2020, when the first scenarios were revealed.
