2022 EIT Climate-KIC Climate Community Lab
2022 EIT Climate-KIC Climate Community Lab
2022 EIT Climate-KIC Climate Community Lab grant winners have completed implementation of their initiatives aiming at civil contribution to just transformation of the coal regions in the CEE.
In the Romanian Valea Jiului, the winners were striving to be creative in overcoming, together, the impact of past economic politics, brain-drain, underestimated potential and major contrasts, through community-driven initiatives. By taking advantage of art’s transformational power, the community successfully managed to gain back open spaces that were forgotten (former coal mining sites), and to promote, and “rehabilitate” them as hubs where creativity, innovation and interaction thrive.
In order to build a local community aimed at lasting social change in the Polish region of Bełchatów the winning team got involved in sustained consultation and discussions with the local community, NGOs and politicians to decide on the future of Bełchatów (Łódzkie Voivodeship) as well as in national and regional events dedicated to the future of power generation in Bełchatów after lignite. They extended their cooperation with regional as well as national organisations, such as the Marshal’s Office in Łódź and the Energy Forum.
The community of Pohornicka krajina in the Czech Republic has identified lack of ecological education for regional transition, and lacking connection between careers and practise as the main challenge to be tackled through their initiatives. Therefore, it organised several educational events for the region’s high-school students on sustainability and sustainable textiles as well as on career and business opportunities for young people. It has also developed education material for teachers and students. The winners also realised a big career opportunity campaign named “Be Steve Jobs of the Textile Industry.” directed to local universities, promoting career opportunities in progressive regional companies.
Thank to EIT Climate-KIC and all our partners Impact Hub Bucharest Impact Hub Czechia and University of Warsaw for the cooperation.
